Jill Galvez, Candidate for Chula Vista City Council Seat #2

December 01, 2009 at 3:41 PM

Jill Galvez' Top Priorities:

Low Taxes: Chula Vista voters have generously supported every school bond measure proposed over the past 10 years, but voted against a 1% sales tax proposal by more than 67%. Increasing sales tax not only affects residents, but also makes it harder for business owners in Chula Vista.

Jobs: A business-friendly environment is the only way we will continue to attract and keep good businesses and good jobs in our city. I will listen to our business community and recruit new companies to do business in our city. We must reduce our economy’s dependence on home building.

Preservation: Our bayfront should be enjoyed and shared as a natural marvel, an attraction for our families, children, retirees and visitors.

Economics: The Chula Vista bayfront offers recreational and economic opportunities. A well-planned Bayfront will bring jobs, visitors, and new revenue for our city. I will pursue only the highest quality and responsible development for our bayfront. We will preserve this natural asset while creating meaningful benefits for our community.

Chula Vista is a tapestry of cultures: People of all ages and backgrounds have found Chula Vista to be the best place on earth to live, raise families, and retire. We join multiple generations of Chula Vistans who continue to raise their families here. Though Chula Vista continues to grow and evolve , one thing remains unchanged. Our community is made up of families, individuals, and retirees who enjoy all types of outdoor activities, including baseball, yoga, soccer, football, cheerleading, cycling, walking their pets, flying kites, picnics. I understand our community’s need to have quality open spaces, practice fields, and parks. As many volunteers are busy coaching our youth, I will be busy finding places for them to enjoy the outdoors.

4 Year University: On 260 acres in Eastern Chula Vista, a stone’s throw south of the Olympic Training Center, lies the future home of a prestigious, public, four year university, with a 75 acre regional technology park. A university will provide educational and economic opportunities for our residents and will attract more jobs and companies to our city. I will actively seek community and statewide support to turn our dreams of a 4-year university into a reality!
