CHULA VISTA: The No on Proposition H campaign declared victory Tuesday night in Chula Vista as early returns came in. “Now is the time to act. Chula Vistans have spoken, again. Taxes and theatrics are not the solution. We must be proactive…. This is and has always been about a regressive tax that hurts hard-working families, burdened struggling small businesses, and would have continued to place our city at a competitive disadvantage.” Ed Herrera, who led the opposition.
“We wish to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for all the support. Everyday, in rain or shine, we fought for the city we love so much. With nothing in return, we all contributed to the cause because we believe in good government and protecting working families. They said the odds were stacked against us. They said the people would be fooled. But, they were wrong. In the end we, the people prevailed. Now the onus is on our leaders to lead and our community to come and pull together. We’ve got to come to a sense of agreement. It won’t be easy, but we know that the spirit of Chula Vista is one that cares and fills in where there are voids. So, thank you Chula Vista for taking a stand. You are the heroes. You. Never forget that.” concluded Herrera in a packed house, surrounded by Chula Vista volunteers and supporters.
With 100 of 105 precincts reporting, results as of 2:15 a.m. November 3, 2010 show 56.6% against to 43.3% in favor.
